A Light Lunch?

Tangible Ireland present a Board Room Lunch at The Presidents' Club in Belfast on Thursday the 4th December 2008 where we will have the opportunity to hear from Con Clarke one of our valued colleagues.

What can one say about Con Clarke, the reality is greater than the myth!

Born in the cradle of the nation in North Dublin in 1936, son of a  Cavan man and a Tipperary woman, Con was one of the first Irish generations to enjoy the potential and challenge of the Irish Free State, the Republic, Free Trade, Enterprise Development, Semi State Formation and Restructuring. Educated at O'Connell School, Kevin Street Technical College culminating at University College Dublin he went on to attend  various  Executive Management Programmes in Ireland, UK and the USA.

To those who know him or have worked with him or against him, he is a formidable performer having climbed from the role of Departures Supervisor in 1964 to hold various Director/Executive roles at Aer Lingus in the late 1990's.

In one of his parallel lives he has been very active in Fianna Fáil and many Key Public figures living and deceased relied on Con for his unique blend of analysis and street smarts. In the sporting arena, starting as a keen participant in Gaelic Games he went on to become the Chairman of the Dublin County Board of the G.A.A.

On a community level he has helped his home village of Raheny rise up the ranks in the National Tidy Towns Competition to become the Best Urban Village and continues today working to enhance its image and appearance. Across the Atlantic Con is a fixture in Irish American circles being a member of the Ireland US Council, The New York St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee along with helping with various of Bill Clinton's charitable endeavours.

Con is a great family man, great company, a great confidante and above all a great raconteur and we look forward to Con giving us a small taste of his wisdom in these challenging times.

In honour of his long career in the aviation industry we have entitled his talk:

Beef or Chicken? Some simple choices to make in these turbulent times!

Attendance is by invitation only.

Can't wait!

Mobile Investment

FDI-Roaming Charges in Ireland???

When asked how to explain Tangible Ireland's concepts of a Dual Jurisdiction Investment in Ireland it can be difficult to find an analogy or  soundbite to help the conversation along. It always sounds a bit complicated to say the least.

While discussing this very issue recently at the Ireland US Council reception in the Great Hall in Stormont I found myself subconsciously grabbing hold of my Mobile Phone.

Using the concept of a Single Account, Multiple Carrier, Multiple Jurisdiction mobile phone to explain how a US Investor could maximise his investment through dealing with Tangible Ireland gaining access to the best available regulations and incentives in both Euro/Sterling Zones proved very effective in illustrating the key points. Generally your monthly bill explains the various categories of calls: Landlines, Mobiles in Home Network, Mobiles in Away Network, Making Calls, Receiving calls etc. It's all listed on the one account and the Mobile Operator handles the distribution of revenue to the various providers utilised in the month. Imagine if you had a separate invoice from every company involved?

The next time you see your Mobile/Cell searching for the best available telecommunications network remember that in the coming months and years you could similarly be seeking to find the optimum route to market and Roaming in Ireland just might be the way to go! Why not check out the various links on our Tangible Home Page and see what is on offer.

Tangible Crusaders!!!!

Gosh,  when we look back over the last decade or so and ask what events and initiatives caused the Republic to reach the 'tipping point' unleashing  the Celtic Tiger and all the positive economic and social consequences as a result, some of us think:

Was it : Jack Charlton? , U2? Riverdance? , Fiscal Policies , Tax Rates,  Microsoft or Intel? etc.

Yesterday I was privileged to be in North Belfast/Newtownabbey to  hear how local soccer enthusiasts have developed the concepts and economic rationale for a very special Cross Community Shared Space World Class Sporting Village which may be one of those significant events..

With modern design, community support and a well considered plan this project put forward by Crusaders FC and Newington FC has the ingredients to deliver social and economic regeneration as well as attractive returns on investment for the private sector. This is not to mention facilities/pitches for the round and oval ball  encouraging sport as a 'medium of engagement' whether we're bouncing it, kicking it,passing it, heading it or as I used to do 'dropping it!'

This multi-functional/purpose sporting complex with associated retail, business opportunities will be instrumental in developing a shared future for this interface area and hopefully trigger a positive 'tipping point' for North Belfast and the wider area.

The underlying business model  will ensure that the project is economically sustainable in the longterm and will not be dependent on top down support once initial support is provided by the local authorities and relevant agencies already tasked with the provision of many of these services.

This project has been  put together by a very talented and motivated taskforce from the two local clubs and they are seizing the opportunity to lead from the front. This is the best organic, bottom up project I have seen in Belfast in recent years and deserves all our support.

It's time for 'kick off' so let's make sure the 'hurlers on the ditch', the 'prawn sandwich brigade' or any form of cynic is not allowed  get in the way of the Tangible Crusaders!

Contact details are available here Crusaders FC or Newington FC

Well done to all involved!!

The Celtic Rhino!

In the aftermath of September 11th and the previous dot.com callapse in the words of Kipling 'all around were losing theirs' and the economy globally stalled and we started missing a few beats here in Ireland. Doom and gloom abounded.

Once we finshed with the denial phase the economy started again to build from the basics of delivering value, providing service, exporting products and services and Momentum followed.

Here we are again in 2008 at another crossroads economically mainly created by a property frenzy that many of us saw as unsustainable.

In Belfast yesterday I met with some northern entrepreneurs who have waited patiently for peace to evolve to provide a platform for economic growth. The new Belfast Agreement is as follows:

We call on all United Businessmen to refuse to participate in the current recession and charge on towards our goals and dreams of creating a successful and dynamic island economy.

Make way for the Celtic Rhino!!!!!!!!!!!! Charge on! Make dust!
